Living in a water tower
We're talking about water towers converted into homes. There are people who aren't put off by a good number of stairs, as they know a good reward awaits them on the top floor: 360º views and an abundance of light, at all hours. In these corner-free homes, orientation isn't an issue. Plus, with all that up and down, who needs to go to the gym?
The majority of the water towers They were built during the Industrial Revolution and are considered historical heritage, therefore, they cannot be demolished. A good solution to make use of these old structures is reconvert them into housing. Bham Studio assigned each of the six floors of the water tower in the Belgian village of Steenokkerzeel to a different use.

A 450m2 area spread over 30m in height allows for everything (garage, storage, office, guest room...).



Without leaving the country, in Brasschaat, we also find the Moereels House by the architect Jo Crepain, A beautiful tower that lights up at night, like a beacon in the middle of the surrounding forest.



In Utrecht, Holland, there is a tower house of nine storeys designed by the architectural studio Zecc in 2004.


Although the luxury hotel takes the prize The Copper Height, in the coastal village of Nieuwleusen, saved from demolition thanks to entrepreneur Hennie van der Most in 1993. The luxury suite occupies the two highest floors of the tower, for «high-flying» tourists, of course.

The English are a class apart on this subject, as examples abound: In the town of Thorpeness, there is a Tudor-style house floating among the clouds, exactly like Up.

Nearby, in Cheshire, the architect Ellis Williams he was responsible for the luxurious Lymm Water Tower House.


At Kenilworth, its tower was built as a mill in the mid-18th century and converted into a water tower in 1884.

The Buckinghamshire, it was built in 1916 by German prisoners of war and from which you can see up to six countries! Perhaps they exaggerate, but the English are very proud of their Water towers, as their British Water Tower Appreciation Society, a unique association.

In urban centres, these water towers they are the perfect solution for housing visiting students, offices, or tourist accommodation, as is the case with Water tower from the popular neighbourhood Prenzlauer Berg in Berlinthe Jaegersborg Tower in Copenhagen in the charge of the architects Dorte Mandrup or the Tower in Essen, Germany, under the charge of the architects Arnim Koch y Michael Dahms.
