Art, fashion and colour (especially one colour): Interview with Sílvia Castelló

But in this interview we take a closer look at an institution in the world of couture.

This is not our first foray into the world of textile art. We refer to Qsturaa school located in Girona that offers online and on-site courses in design, pattern making and dressmaking (including its own diploma in Fashion and Textiles), with a philosophy that is steeped in values such as sustainability and innovation. We spoke to Sílvia CastellóThe director, who explains to us when this passion was born, what her sources of inspiration are and what is the colour that fills - literally - every corner of her life.

Tell us about yourself and your work. Where did your vocation start? Any first memories?

Qstura is a life project. When I was a child, for different family reasons, I didn't go to school, I was isolated from the world until I was 19 years old... But when I was 11 years old I was given a sewing machine, and that was my salvation and my freedom... I started to create and sew all the time, imagining a different, creative and free world, which over the years I have made a reality, that is the true transformation of sewing that I transmit in my school and in my projects!

What do you find most satisfying about your work, and is there anything you are particularly proud of?

This connection with myself, to be able to transmit it to our students so that they can feel it through sewing.

What is your creative process like, what are your sources of inspiration, any particular music while working?

My creative process starts by thinking about how I am, I imagine how I would like my project to be, and how I want it to express my values... If it is coherent, I let a few hours pass, sometimes days... and the magic happens! Then I share my idea, to certify that it works.

Music, yes, positive and lively!

Favourite colour, book, film and record - in that order!

Lila!

Always Forward by O. S. Marden (published in Spain by Biblok Book Export).

Smiles and tears.

My Wayby Frank Sinatra.

Is your home a reflection of who you are? Tell us what it smells like, your favourite corner, your favourite decorative object or piece of furniture, if you treasure a collection... And if you have a pet, introduce it to us!

Yes, it's a good reflection, and we made it ourselves less than a year ago! All simple, white and grey, anthracite and hints of wood colour, with a lot of creativity and design only in the lilac fabrics, in different textures and tones. My mascot, of course, is called LILA!

If you could buy anything right now and take it home, what would it be? Anything!

Well look... I'm looking to buy a Mini Cooper and I'm going to paint it lilac!

A great plan at home always includes...

Philosophies and dances in the kitchen, vegetable garden, family... and sewing! (In the photo, concert with social distance in the garden of Sílvia's house).

Do you have a signature dish?

Rice!

Where is your favourite place in your city and abroad?

Girona Cathedral, with its immensity... Whenever I need to breathe and find silence, I go there. Abroad, Paris.

Anything you want to tell us that we haven't asked you, speak now or forever hold your peace!

I would like to tell you about Elisabet, Judit and Carles, my treasures... a luxury to be a mother 24 hours a day. And Enric... my great friend and companion on the road.

With a life marked by personal and creative transformation, Sílvia has turned sewing into a language of her own, a form of empowerment and expression. From Qstura, she shares this journey with those who, like her, believe that sewing is much more than joining fabrics: it is tracing paths, building dreams... and, why not, painting them lilac.
