In 1999, Maite found an incredible loft (formerly owned by the renowned sculptor Frederic Marès). Hidden behind a stately building in the Eixample district, “it was love at first sight”. It is an urban oasis.

It all started with a phone call: “I have a loft that I’d like to rent…”. That’s how many of our stories begin, but meeting Maite Lafuente and discovering her wonderful studio is something we just have to share. Out of the ordinary, studio and artist.

Maite Lafuente is fashion illustrator. Drawing and she have always gone hand in hand. She drew as a little girl and studied while drawing at the Massana School alongside the textile engineer Josep Ramón Barnils, who recommended her at the Spanish Fashion Institute. Maite still remembers that incredible place, back then the epicentre of trends. It was there that her passion for the textile universe was born and she began a successful career as a fashion illustrator, collaborating for major brands such as Escada and Pertegaz.

In 1999, Maite found a incredible loft (formerly owned by the famous sculptor Frederic Marès). Hidden behind a stately estate in the Eixample, “it was love at first sight”. Maite says there is something magical about it and that it captivates everyone who visits. The light, the silence... It's an urban parenthesis.

There Maite edited three illustration books in record time and confesses that if it hadn't been for the calm provided by his study, he surely wouldn't have managed it.

But there have also been times of expansion... Meetings, parades, photo shoots, classes, even street parties! Throughout all these years, Maite has made the absolute most of her studio.

But now we need to move on, make way for new stages, and always doing so with a smile. The loft has found some new tenants. They will look familiar to you… You've been warned.
