Dorotea: stomping on the ground

A philosophy in which technique and aesthetics go hand in hand, where style and comfort are inseparable.

Dorotea: going strong : Monapart

Dorotea was founded as a brand in 2000, after working with brands such as Camper and Antonio Miró. Each of the models is the result of a combination of creativity and technical knowledge.

Tell us about yourself and your work. Where did your vocation start? Any first memories?

Since I was very young, around the age of 12, I used to pay a lot of attention to the shoes that women wore, because as a teenager I couldn't find anything that I liked... I found that the style was either very ladylike or very childish. At that time there were no brands like Camper (which was the pioneer in youth footwear) and sneakers were only used for sports.

A first memory? Well, at the same time I remember walking down a quiet, quiet street and walking on tiptoe so that the sound of my shoes could not be heard as I walked....

What do you find most satisfying about your work, and is there anything you are particularly proud of?

I love creating volumes (lasts and heels) and mixing textures and colours.
I am especially proud of the creation of sandals... they are always very special because of their shapes and colours.

What is your creative process like, what are your sources of inspiration, any particular music while working?

I start by creating the lasts that will be part of the collection and at the same time I design the heels and the volumes of the soles. At the same time, I prepare colour and texture charts so that when I design the modeling on each last, I can combine them.

My sources of inspiration are everything that comes into my sight... women in the street, films I see, museums and exhibitions I visit and nature for its colours.

I use all kinds of music depending on the day and the moment, from jazz, rock, classical music or mantras... and I have always been accompanied by radio3 for many, many years and its magnificent programmes.

Favourite colour, book, film and record - in that order!

Greens, turquoises and pale pinks - I can't stick to just one colour!

The oblivion that we will be by Héctor Abad Faciolince

Dersu Uzala by Akira Kurosawa

As a song I would say Love Song by Adele, but as albums I love James Taylor (which take me back to my childhood) or Max Richter with Blue Note. And, of course, you can't miss The Smiths.

Is your home a reflection of who you are? Tell us what it smells like, your favourite corner, your favourite decorative object or piece of furniture, if you treasure a collection... And if you have a pet, introduce it to us!

Totally, my house is a reflection of who I am. My house smells like the candles I light, sometimes of bergamot, sometimes of fig scent...

My favourite corner is to lie on the chaise longe, inherited from my grandparents, and sink into colourful cushions.

My favourite objects are Japanese iron teapots and Helena Rohner's ceramic collection... yes, I have a collection of teapots! And I do have a pet... my beloved cat Max who is 3 years old.

If you could buy anything right now and take it home, what would it be? Anything!

Ufff... a vintage armchair or an armchair from architects such as Alvar Aalto, Mies Van der Ronher or le Corbusier. Specifically the LC2.

A great plan at home always includes...

A nice dinner with friends.

Do you have a signature dish?

My grandmother's German desserts.

Where is your favourite place in your city and abroad?

In Barcelona I love going to the beach early in the morning to meditate to start the day.

There are so many places abroad! But I adore Asia... Japan, Tokyo...

Anything you want to tell us that we haven't asked you, speak now or forever hold your peace!

No, I will keep quiet.

His work, a perfect fusion of technique and aesthetics, reflects his dedication and passion for creating unique pieces. The inspiration that guides each of her designs, from nature to cultural influences, is reflected in every detail of her collections. Undoubtedly, Dorotea is still going strong, taking her art and creativity to new heights.
