Fundació Hàbitat3 and the social rehabilitation of Llar Casa Bloc

A Monapart, a banda de vendre i llogar habitatges bonics, we like to be part of initiatives that improve the lives of the most vulnerable people (such as our annual collaboration with Arrels Foundation), and that they wriggle out of the gap that often separates them from a dignified home.

What is the Llar Casa Bloc project?

In this case, and for a long time now, we have been providing our grain of salt as external consultants in communication for the Habitat Foundation3a social housing management company promoted by the Taula del Tercer Sector, promoting the project for the rehabilitation of the mythical Casa Bloc Residence in Sant Andreu (Barcelona). This old space will be transformed to adapt it to the housing needs of around forty people at risk of social exclusion, cared for by the social services of Barcelona City Council. The works are expected to be completed by the end of 2020 and the 17 flats will be handed over in the first quarter of 2021.

The rationalist Casa Bloc (built between 1932 and 1936) is synonymous with the history of the country and of architecture. It was designed by architects Josep Lluís Sert, Josep Torres Clavé and Joan Baptista Subirana, members of the GATCPAC (Grup d'Arquitectes i Tècnics Catalans pel Progrés de l'Arquitectura Contemporània), was an innovative social project at the time, fully integrated into the urban environment and with functional housing for workers. The building was inaugurated by President Francesc Macià.

The proposal "Desbloc"de l'estudi Fàbricwas the winner of the 38 projects submitted in 2017 to the architectural competition to award the best project, in collaboration with the College of Architects of Catalonia (COAC). The works, as of September 2020, are progressing at a very good pace. The partitioning of the dwellings has already begun to take shape and the initial installations of the basic supplies have begun.

In the 17 homes that are being built there, measures will be applied to combat the digital divide, applying energy consumption and efficiency monitoring systems, thus avoiding situations of energy poverty.
