Music that belongs in the home: Leon Guallart and his "Comfort: Home Tour".

A spacious living room in the heart of Ciutat Vella in Barcelona, in a house with character, where every detail of the interior seems to tell a story.

At the heart of a unique and intimate experience, earlier this year Monapart witnessed how music and architecture intertwined in an exclusive concert given by Leon Guallart at the home of Beth Galí and Oriol Bohigas, one of the stops on his "Comfort: Home Tour" of significant homes in Barcelona.

The reinvention of the House Party

At a House Party people meet and get to know each other. Well, imagine yourself for a moment in a spacious living room in the heart of Ciutat Vella in Barcelona, in a house with character, where every detail of the interior seems to tell a story. Now, add the unique melody of a vinyl gently spinning under the needle of an antique record player... Two grand pianos face to face in a living room, no streaming or digital files, just the pure experience of the here and now. A performance with light effects, sound effects, candles, projections, a cello, a saxophone and Leon Guallart, dressed in white overalls, like a conductor leading the lucky audience to enjoy every note, every pause, turning the act of listening into a liturgy.

Beth Galí, hostess of this House Party at her home in Plaza Real in Barcelona, opened the evening by recalling the days when her home was a meeting point for intellectuals of the Gauche Divine and showed us how the intimate space of a house can be transformed into a unique concert hall, celebrating the piano and the house it inhabits.

"Comfort: Home Tour", a musical tour through dreamlike architectures

Guallart's musical journey began at La Pedrera, a modernist icon by Antoni Gaudí, on 28 December 2023, marking a promising and vibrant start to his tour. Each concert in the series has been carefully selected to take place in venues that not only stand out for their architectural beauty but also for their historical and cultural significance.

From his own house in Ciutat Vella, winner of a FAD Interior Design Award in 1992, to Bohigas-Galí's bohemian flat, Benedetta Tagliabue's modern residence and Ricardo Bofill's house-workshop designed in a former cement factory, Guallart has brought his music to architecturally significant corners of Barcelona, turning each place into a living stage where melodies and harmonies flow between columns and balconies, invoking a new aura in ancient walls.

Each performance has been an opportunity to connect one-on-one with the audience. These concerts, characterised by their limited seating capacity, allow for a more personal and intimate experience, where each musical note seems to be played just for you. It's not just a concert, it's as if Leon is inviting you into his living room, in a musical dialogue where each chord is a whisper in your ear.

The album "Comfort", only available on vinyl and performed at these concerts, is an introspective journey that offers a sonic refuge. With 16 tracks that flow seamlessly, Leon Guallart has woven a sonic tapestry that promises to be a "warm embrace in the middle of a snowstorm".. Collaborations with artists such as Ariadna Besalduch and the children's choir of the Iglesia del Pilar in Zaragoza add depth and a rich texture that can only be fully appreciated in the red vinyl format, designed by Guallart himself and with a typography designed by his grandmother.

This vinyl is a risky bet that has sold all its copies, highlighting how physical formats such as vinyl invite us to immerse ourselves in a universe of sensations, colours and smells. The album seeks not only to entertain, but also to invite reflection and meditation, evoking emotions that are often lost in the fast-paced everyday life.

Upcoming stops: a tour that transcends borders

After Barcelona, the "Comfort: Home Tour" plans to expand to other European cities and reach the United States, with a concert expected to take place in Taliesin West, home of Frank Lloyd Wright in Arizona. This expansion promises to bring Guallart's vision to new audiences, while maintaining the essence of intimacy and personal connection.
