In early 2012, Claudia, a Catalan entrepreneur, opened a shop in one of the quietest streets of the bohemian neighbourhood of Gracia when she realised that there was a niche in the decoration market, between vintage designer furniture and the more affordable pieces so popular with young people.

Located just a few metres from the busy street of Gran de Gracia, Meublé is an eclectic mix of 1950s wicker armchairs, slatted wooden cupboards, elegant coffee tables, antique tins and delicate tea sets.

Most of the furniture has been recovered from flats that were for sale, in the Encants Vells or in the same street, and Claudia has devoted herself to restoring all the objects by applying a coat of paint and repairing the upholstery.

The interior of the shop tends towards kitsch and the organisation reflects Claudia's background in fashion design.

Meublé meets the growing demand in Barcelona for unique pieces that embody an elegant yet unpretentious lifestyle.

"Why go to Ikea to buy something mass-produced when, for a similar price, you can come here and find something timeless that no one else has," says Claudia.

In today's urban climate, Meublé exemplifies a generation of creative entrepreneurs who look to the past for new inspiration.
