The quintessence of space: Interview with Estudio Bombí + Gómez | Monapart

Bea, an interior designer, and Elvira, an architect, are the tandem that gives life to Estudio Bombí + Gómez. Taking a look at the projects in his Instagram you quickly realise that in their homes there is room for everything... except improvisation. Nothing is surplus to requirements, nothing is lacking. From the client's initial concept to the complete development of the project, adding architecture, interior design, graphic design and landscaping. Their Sanés Housea great example of their essence, was selected for the Dezeen Awards 2020. Find out more about them in our interview.

Tell us about yourselves and your work. Where did your vocation begin?

We have always been interested in spatial interiors, the combination of materials and their interaction with light. We think that our vocation for architecture and interior design may have been born out of the experiences of our families.

What do you find most satisfying about your work, and is there anything you are particularly proud of?

The satisfaction and joy of the customer and generating employment around you. We are proud of practically every project. We put a lot of enthusiasm and hours of work into them, however small and/or simple they may be.

What is your creative process like, what are your sources of inspiration, any particular music while working?

It goes from chaos to order! There are many sources of inspiration, from a film to a landscape, a work of art... it depends on the moment, but when we draw and we are in the middle of the creative process, silence is what helps us the most.

Favourite colour, book, film and song/disco - in that order! ;D

Green and dark blue and the combination with ecru.

Marie Antoinette, by Stefan Zweig.

Io sono l'amoreby Luca Guadagnino.

Hymn to Herby Pretenders.

Are your homes a reflection of who you are? Tell us what they smell like, your favourite corner, decorative object or fetish piece of furniture, if you treasure a collection... And if you have a pet, introduce it to us!

Our homes are a reflection of the lives we lead. They smell of fresh air, and now even more so, as they are permanently ventilated. Our favourite corner is the one that our body asks for at any given moment, whether it's the kitchen for cooking, an armchair with books or the sofa for relaxing. Our favourite decorative object is the Milà's TMMin both floor and wall versions. We are very fond of art and from time to time we buy a piece. And yes, we have a dog!

If you could buy anything right now and take it home, what would it be? Anything!

Bread from the Es baluard bakery and the Berger stool by Charlotte Perriand.

A great plan at home always includes...

A good lunch or dinner, laughter and wine.

Do you have any star dishes?

Peas with artichokes, black sausage and some bacon.

Where is your favourite place in your city and abroad?

In these times when the need for nature is greater, Collserola and Barceloneta, Barcelona is a wonderful city! Outside, museums/outdoor gardens such as the Louisiana Museum, Chillida Leku, Kroller-Müller Museum...

Anything you want to tell us that we haven't asked you - speak now or forever hold your peace!

60% of our work has been carried out teleworking for several years, both with each other and with clients. Most of our projects have been carried out with clients who live abroad, which means that our site visits with them are virtual, and graphic development and IT tools are very important. For this, graphic development and IT tools are of great importance - the current situation is not new to us!

Looking at their projects, you immediately realise that in their homes there is room for everything... except improvisation. Nothing is surplus, nothing is lacking. A comprehensive work process, from the client's initial concept to the complete development of the project, combining architecture, interior design, graphic design and landscaping.
