Ideas for renovating your outdoor space

In this post, the service platform Zaask shares with us four ideas for transforming these outdoor spaces into little paradises.

Living in the city has many advantages, such as the (greater or lesser) proximity to the workplace, restaurants, events and cultural venues and the greater choice of all kinds of products and services. But there is a big disadvantage: having nature far away. However, we can often enjoy a balcony, patio, terrace or garden (from less to more) of our own, and if we condition and take good care of them, they will provide us with numerous moments of happiness in summer as well as in winter.

A balcony for al fresco dining

If the balcony is minimal, you won't be able to. But as little as you can fit a table and a couple of chairs, you've got it. Suddenly, your house will gain in size! And you'll be using a space that until now was only occupied by your bike or old junk and, with a bit of luck, you'll be able to use a space that you've been using for a long time, an urban garden.

A set of outdoor tables and chairs can cost around €400. Of course, nobody likes to dine in the dark! So invest a little in outdoor lighting... The average price for a minimal electrical installation is €350.

A patio for barbecues

It is possible to enjoy a barbecue with friends in a courtyard or on the rooftop; leave behind the idea that BBQs are only in huge country houses or in detached houses as part of a residential complex... You can even consider a barbecue for around €850 (average price) or, if you opt for a prefabricated one, prices start at €200.

In case you want to sell or rent the house in the future, the barbecue is a plus!

A terrace where you can sunbathe

If you're an iguana and you want a sun terrace, your ideal combination is synthetic grass (€10 / m2) and some plants. If you also have a roof or awning to give you some shade, you can also invest in a modular outdoor sofa; there's something for everyone: from €300 to €500. To complete the set, a side table will allow you to rest your cool beer on it (approx. €50).

A Zen garden

The city can be stressful (well, the truth is that we're the ones who are stressed, not the city, but you get the idea...) and having the garden of your dreams where walking barefoot and taking a deep breath sounds like glory.

It is possible to have a space that evokes moments of relaxation, introspection and a more spiritual atmosphere. Building a deck (wooden decking) as flooring, for example, will make the floor more comfortable and warmer than a ceramic floor (average cost €65/m2). Hanging a hammock between two columns or between a column and a wall will provide memorable naps (€60). Decorating with large pillows or poufs will also contribute to an atmosphere that invites relaxation and tai chi classes. And then, fill it all with plants and shrubs, although it is important to know choosing the right outdoor plants for your garden.

Finally, don't forget the lighting, which should be warm. Go for wall-mounted chandeliers, for example, so as not to steal more space from the garden or terrace (approx. €195).
