Christmas gifts for the home without leaving Malasaña

We've prepared this guide to decorative gifts without leaving Malasaña, so that this Christmas you'll get more than one "ooh!" from family and friends.

At the end of the day, what we give also says something about us and how much we care about the person for whom it is intended. Don't you think so? With this Christmas decoration gift guide, you won't be in any danger of getting it wrong and you'll be able to do almost all your Christmas shopping without leaving Malasaña.

Giving decoration as a gift is a gamble that we love, but it is not without its dangers...

El Paracaidista (Palma 10) is our first essential stop. Not only can you find millions of things to give as gifts, but you'll also leave inspired for the rest of your shopping. For those who don't know this shop yet, we could define it as Madrid's Colette: trend, trend and more trend.

Our favourite options for gifts: their collection of "Tea table books" **, their tech section or the kitchen and delicatessen section for those who love to cook. By the way, you can take the opportunity to have a drink at the bar, but don't linger too long because there's still a lot to see...

Lakari Kala (Palma 20) a few metres from the previous one, we find Ana and Alberto, who for Christmas prepare made-to-measure cupboards with 60s designs as well as bedside tables and side tables. If you want one, call them now! Let's help that loved one finally say goodbye to their Lack or Malm. They've done their job, so let's say thank you to the Konmari method for their contribution and let them go....

Wasabi (Corredera alta de San Pablo 18) has a shop window that reads: "Lifestyle and other unnecessary stuff".. This is the perfect shop to go shopping for a detail with a touch of kitch and from which you leave with a blouse for yourself. Their diaries and the tupperware to take your sandwich to the office are really cool, but what I liked the most are their marble wall clocks and their small selection of lamps....

Mon petit retro (San Andrés 2) offers gifts for babies or for the baby's parents. Psss, psss... Gift-givers without children, you should know, here amongst us, that they probably already have a few batches of bath products and that the newborn shoes are hardly going to be worn. Whatever you buy here is sure to be cool, but if you want to add a touch of deco, their bunny lamps and retro posters are cute. [By the way, check out this video of Miriam Tirado if you need more ideas to know what to give when a baby is born].

At Pozo Cafés (Fuencarral 53) the smell of freshly brewed coffee in a traditional coffee maker is a classic that can't fail. Here they have them in all colours, shapes and prices. A traditional shop, tiny, cosy and cute in the heart of Fuencarral. By the way, don't leave without buying freshly ground coffee for yourself... A delight.

The Modern Concept Store (Corredera baja de San Pablo 19). Impossible not to mention them. Impossible to choose one thing to recommend among all their "objects with soul". Although a print by an artist from Malasaña is never a bad option.

Karibu (Manuela Malasaña 29) is a friendly gift shop ideal for solving the problem of the Secret Santa gift for work colleagues. Here you'll find Polaroid cameras and film to immortalise dinner and the boss dancing (classic elbows and knees dance). If it's your turn to give a cute girl, get her a mermaid blanket and for that colleague who always complains about everything, the "fucking calendar" will come in handy.

In the Javier S. Medina's workshop Whether you find a mirror or an ecological trophy, anything that comes out of the hands of this artisan is a sure hit. Something special, beautiful, tasteful and with a bohemian and natural touch that will leave you speechless: "You're special and I know you've got style, baby."

Back to (Barcelo 15). The combination of Nordic design and yoga is nothing more than the continuation of a philosophy based on feeling good. Its pieces of furniture from House Doctor are fantastic and very versatile. But if I had to give something in particular, I'd go for the spectacularly designed portable bluetooth speakers from Kreafunk.

Dooc (Espiritu Santo 27) here you will find very original pieces, with design and a sense of humour at affordable prices. A big fan of their wall decorations, their vases and, of course, the lamps they design themselves.

4 Perras (in Rughara, Corredera alta de San Pablo 1; although they show the smaller pieces in their showroom in c/ San Andrés 19 by appointment) is a shop of "curiosities and old junk" with more than 25 years of experience. All kinds of antique and retro details, unique and special. The best thing to do is to go in and let the objects tell you the name of the person you are going to give them to. In my letter to the Three Kings I ask for an eighties crockery, an old-fashioned plate to put the nougat on or some of the liqueur glasses that my grandmother used to have.

Whatever your budget, give a gift with love and affection, because it always shows.

And you, monaparter, what decoration shops in Malasaña do you recommend?

*I put: Gift of dubious taste given as a compromise and then you don't know where to put it.
**Tea table books: stylish books that look great on the side table and in Instagram photos.

Malilla and the future to come in Valencia

01/05/2019 by Monapart

It has taken almost nine years since the design by landscape designer Kathryn Gustafson was chosen to see the Central Park that aims to link the neighbourhoods of Ruzafa (the coolest in Valencia), Arrancapins, La Raiosa, Malilla and La Creu Coberta in Valencia become a reality. Last January, part of one of the most important and far-reaching urban planning operations (perhaps the largest since the construction of the City of Arts and Sciences, back in 1998) for the city of the Turia in the last decade opened its doors. According to the parties involved in the development of this macro-project, the design of the Central Park responds to typical Valencian landscape typologies such as the orchard and the sea. It seems simpler than it really is: more than 60 species of trees have been used, and it is planned that once it is finished, 1,000 trees and more than 86,000 bushes will surround the Demetrio Ribes warehouses and the surrounding esplanades of this new green area in the centre of Valencia.
