At Carol Iborra's house

The Carol Iborra she is a spatial architect with her own distinct personality. In the same way that Geppetto, Carol works as a craftswoman, transforming her projects into soulful beings endowed with unconditional love. As a result, her designs reflect parts of herself, and she certainly pours her heart and soul into her work. For this reason, Carol is different and her conceptual universe strikes us as utterly fantastic.

Let's meet in Poblenou, the first village of El Maresme, in Carol's own words. It's the second time we're going up in the goods lift and, curiously, we feel the same excitement as the first day we were in La Nau , its masterpiece. Whether due to the majesty of the industrial building constructed in the 1930s, or because we know what awaits us once we cross the enormous door of the hallway, we feel the butterflies in the stomach typical of first times. Timidly, we step inside, or rather, the vast interior before our eyes enters us, now left open-mouthed. And the fact is that La Nau configure a 430m2 home! Just to tell you that installing the sound system required 42 metres of audio cable! “We had to learn about the exorbitant measurements,” Carol confesses.

A blinding light penetrates through a massive 4-metre-high window, creating a theatrical atmosphere, to say the least.

This idea is reinforced thanks to the curtain that falls from the ceiling of the entrance as if it were the drop curtain welcoming the architectural spectacle.

In the design of La Nau, Carol explains to us that she was inspired by the structure of the Tunis Kasbah because the Arabic market pattern allowed her to achieve a very open house model where the garden corresponded to the living room and the private areas originated from a network of hidden corners.

In this way, different environments were joined together through a labyrinth of water features. Pure visual poetry.

The kitchen, a built structure with no units, is the heart of the home and acts like a light bulb that illuminates the whole house at night. “It's as if it were the swimming pool in the garden,” says Carol.

The spaciousness also offers multiple services and the corners are transformed, for example, into makeshift restoration workshops, dressmaking workshops, studios, libraries for planning journeys...

According to Carol’s father, it is the “first smart home”, where television adverts and even films have also been shot, and television series .

For Carol, hers is a sculptural house that acts as a mirror of itself. And the truth is that La Nau it tells us a lot about its creator. If she didn't live there, Carol imagines herself in a house with sea views. A home where she could experience the grandeur of the ocean and from which to project the spirit of an infinitely original person.
