They say that pets resemble their owners. But animals go their own way, and if we resemble them it is probably because we humans unwittingly mimic their way of being. The same can be said of houses. It is easy to think that we are in control, that our home will end up looking like us. But sometimes the opposite happens: you move into a flat with such a well-defined personality that you gradually adapt your character to your surroundings, like a subtle chameleon-like camouflage. And without realising it, after a few months in this flat, people start to notice a certain regal and stately air about you.
