If you were asked about the most important cities in the Mediterranean, you would probably mention Barcelona, Rome, Athens, Istanbul or Cairo. Only none of them, with the exception of Barcelona, have direct access to the sea (Istanbul does, but technically it's another sea). And like any self-respecting big city, here we have a main avenue (La Rambla), a historic and monumental centre (the Gòtic), an opera house (the Liceu), an emblematic market (the Boquería), and also McDonald's, Zaras and Starbucks (all within 100 metres of this house). Therefore, at the risk of entering into geopolitical debates, we can proudly state that Barcelona is the capital of the Mediterranean.
