The 2019 edition of Archikidz Girona, an unmissable event for children (and their parents) who enjoy architecture and its expressions, will take place on Sunday 22 September at the Claustre de la Mercè in Girona. A Monapart Girona we love this combination (we are already a classic at the Tarragona Minipop i no hi vam faltar a la COAC Festival of Architects 2019) and this year we are sponsors of the event. More than 100 children between 7 and 12 years old and more than 30 volunteers made the 2018 edition a success, and this year it is expected to be even bigger!
L'Archikidz Girona consists of a workshop, from 10:00 to 13:30, where children, with the help of volunteers, will be able to let their imagination fly to create their own ideal space proposed through a model. This time the topic for reflection is public space: what do children understand by public space? Do they use it consciously? Do they recognise and like the public spaces that are close to them? How would they improve them? With trees... grass... football pitches?
Once the workshop is over, all the volunteers are invited to a snack with live music and, at the end of the event, we will hand out theEames Elephant of Vitra that we have raffled among all those who have registered through the participation form.
Archikidz Girona is a non-profit association founded in 2018 by three young architects, Mireia Reixach, Ariadna Serrano and Maria Bosch (you can follow them in Instagram @archikidzgirona). Its aim is to promote architecture and creativity among children and their families. The association organises and collaborates in playful activities for the youngest children with the idea of awakening and stimulating their thinking, of being observers and of analysing and questioning the architectural reality that surrounds us. Archikidz Girona is the flagship workshop of the Archikidz platform, which also aims to foster cooperation between volunteers from the worlds of architecture, art, design and culture, promoting social cohesion and the creative personal development of children. The beneficiaries of the activities are the children, but so are all the volunteers who make them possible and who have direct contact with the children; a true source of inspiration.
Archikidz was born in Amsterdam (The Netherlands) in 1997, under the name "Bouwen in de Beurs" (Building on the Wall). Later it was renamed Archikidz. Due to its great success, the platform has now been consolidated in other cities around the world: Barcelona (2007), Buenos Aires (2010), Rotterdam (2012), Sydney (2012), Bergen (2013), Lisbon (2014) and Santiago de Chile (2015).
