The emblematic Marqués Viudo de Pontejos street already says a lot about the character of these restored dwellings: a street that still preserves its traditional character, with haberdasheries and warehouses from another era, a parenthesis just a few steps away from the mass tourism of Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor.

Elements recovered from another time: the decorative fireplaces, the hydraulic floors, high ceilings where the original paintwork and mouldings have been preserved, the window frames... Contemporary pieces but inspired by the unique elements, such as the white lacquered doors carved with geometries that imitate the motif of the floors, or the porcelain stoneware mosaic bathrooms. And on the other hand, equipment conceived and designed for modern life: the building's maximum fire safety, fibre optics, thermostat...

Housing with "haute couture" details translated into responsible architecture, with continuous exercises in creativity.

The convent of Magdalena Street 1

Another example of architecture that respects the memory of Madrid, close to the Plaza de Tirso de Molina, is this former convent dating from before the 18th century, rescued with exquisite care from several terrible renovations in the 1970s and 1990s.

A 65m2 double living-dining room around which the social part of this house is articulated. The preservation of original elements from this and other old buildings, such as some wooden beams, the original Catalan hydraulic floor, the sliding door of the main room, the ventilation grilles... In the end it is the conjunction of newly created designs and pieces inspired in the past and the history of this dwelling, such as the omnipresent wooden beams in ceilings and pillars, the kitchen connected to the pantry and laundry area, or the white-painted brick walls of the living room.

The result is a space with a calm spirit, which connects with its past, reinterprets it and creates authentic artistic rooms with a focus on modern-day comfort.

This property is currently for sale in Monapart Madrid. It is a combination of the stately air of the buildings in the historic centre of Madrid with alternative and updated elements that give a "plus" to the creative stamp of Pontejos Conservación. These are the rock&roll touches, as the founder of Pontejos, Diego Hidalgo, would say.

Above all, the common denominator of Pontejos, the refurbished elements: the original walls in the entrance hall reinterpreted in green, the old freestanding bathtub totally recovered, the kitchen sink, the antique lamps, the radiator keys... And those details in which we can see the orientation towards comfort and current uses, such as fitting out a bathroom for each bedroom, planning a large office at the entrance of the flat for the professional who works from home or connecting the kitchen to the living-dining room (equipped, moreover, with new top-of-the-range electrical appliances).

Both in the centre of Madrid and in Barcelona, Pontejos Conservación designs new spaces with modern-day practical approaches, reinterpreting the old ones.
