{"id":486,"date":"2015-04-29T16:55:38","date_gmt":"2015-04-29T14:55:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.monapart.com\/magazine\/?p=486"},"modified":"2025-07-29T12:28:05","modified_gmt":"2025-07-29T10:28:05","slug":"the-reality-of-the-architect","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.monapart.com\/magazine\/en\/noticias\/la-realidad-del-arquitecto","title":{"rendered":"The architect's reality"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The architect's reality<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A day of architecture, imagery and cheek at the ETSAB, with swots, escalibada and uncomfortable truths about the profession.<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class='post-info'>29 April 2015 by <a href='https:\/\/www.monapart.com\/magazine\/en\/autor\/monapart'>Monapart<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The day before, while rehearsing at the ETSAB (Escola T\u00e8cnica Superior d\u2019Arquitectura de Barcelona \u2013 @ETSABarcelona), Pati N\u00fa\u00f1ez (@patinunez) told me that she wasn't used to public speaking and that she was going to read from a script, like the swotty girls\u2014they're always girls\u2014who get top marks and walk out of exams saying, \u201cI did awful.\u201d The next day she nailed a presentation on the construction of the architect's image (in general) (in particular): an introduction to the morning panel and the starting gun for a full-day event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those of you who weren't there missed out and I won't be the one to tell you what was said (you'll be able to see it on <a href=\"http:\/\/tv.upc.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UPCTv<\/a> shortly), but Pati N\u00fa\u00f1ez, Rafael G\u00f3mez-Moriana (@rafagomo), Daniel M\u00f3dol (@DModol_UrbArch), Miguel \u00c1ngel Aguil\u00f3 (@MiguelA_Aguilo) and\u00a0<em>yours truly<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.monapart.com\/magazine\/en\/quienes-somos\/\">@jl_echeverria<\/a>) we turned the 12:30\u201314:30 lunchtime slot into a happy and engaging experience with equal parts expertise, sophistication, provocation, intimacy, and youthful audacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Afterwards, the young audience wolfed down the catering <em>in the nick of time<\/em>&nbsp;and the grown-ups sat at a table in the VIP area of the ETSAB, which is on a stair landing \u2014 too big to be a landing and too small to be anything else \u2014 accessed from the boardroom or the bar storage room\u2026 Architects are something else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Important details are that the conference was sponsored by HNA (La Mutualidad de los Arquitectos) and the ETSAB, and was organised by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.patinunezagency.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pati N\u00fa\u00f1ez Agency<\/a>.
