The Wooden Dolls<\/a><\/strong> from Alexander Girard<\/strong><\/a> are one of those objects that leave us open-mouthed and that, beyond all greed, make us dream and pinch our intellect. Half a century later, these cheerful figures are still being produced by hand to decorate the liveliest interiors.<\/h2>\n\n\n

Together with Charles and Ray Eames and George Nelson<\/strong>Alexander \"Sandro\" Girard is one of the most influential representatives of post-war American design, and perhaps one of the least known. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

His palette of colours and prints splashed humour and fantasy in the modern design<\/strong>He captures the essence of Latin America through fresh, contemporary designs applied to a multitude of artistic objects. His design work for the Braniff airline stands out, from the textiles in their lounges to the company's colourful aeroplanes and the crew's costumes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This series of 11 figures was designed and handmade by Girard himself in 1963 to decorate his home in Santa Fe, and today they are still produced under a careful artisan process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Made from solid spruce wood, some cheerful, others sullen and moody, they reflect the philosophy of their creator: \"Toys represent a microcosm of man's world and dreams; they exhibit fantasy, imagination, humour and love\". <\/em>Yes, fantasy, imagination, humour and love are the ingredients of the Monapart world.
