Three years ago - it seems like only yesterday - we told you about Joe Colombo<\/a> and his revolutionary Spider lamp. Today we return to him to discover another of his great geniuses.<\/h2>\n\n\n

The Boby Trolley<\/strong> was one of the most popular designs of the 20th century, as it was conceived out of a desire to reinvent traditional domestic furniture. Colombo sought to create furniture<\/strong> The company's main obsession in the 1960s was to improve storage systems.<\/p>\n\n\n

In 1963 he created his first prototype, the Combi-Center<\/strong>a container with cylindrical units for storing books, drinks and tools.<\/p>\n\n\n

A year later, he designed the Man-Woman Container<\/strong>The futuristic version, which looked like something out of a science fiction film, was a module with drawers, shelves and mirrors hidden inside two wardrobes, one for men and one for women.<\/p>\n\n\n

Both of these experiments culminated in 1970 with the Boby<\/strong>a mobile unit with drawers and rotating shelves designed for both domestic and office use. It is an absolutely versatile module that allows ample storage space thanks to its multiple folding plastic drawers. In addition, its polypropylene wheels allow for great mobility, and its compartments can be used to store an endless number of things.<\/p>\n\n\n

Some people use it as a bedside table, a greengrocer (seriously!) or a toy box, others use it as an auxiliary piece of furniture for making and storing artistic utensils. If you are a craft enthusiast, this is the piece of furniture for you.<\/p>\n\n\n

In 1971 he won the first prize at the Italian design fair SMAU<\/a><\/strong> and has since become part of the permanent design collections of prestigious museums such as the MoMA<\/a><\/strong> or the Triennale<\/a><\/strong> of Milan. Considered one of the icons of the Italian pop design<\/strong>The Boby is still being produced by the Italian firm. B-Line<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
