Refurbished 80 sqm apartment in a 1940 building. In the words of the authors of the refurbishing, AV62 architectural studio: The project’s main concern was to rearrange the former chaotic distribution, searching for light and trying to draw deep visual perspectives in an area of small dimensions. The programme is organized around two bedrooms, one bath and one area for kitchen, dining room and living room. The main decision of the project was to locate the bathroom as a free-standing and central element. This element organizes the circulation around it and allows the passage of light from the patios and balconies towards the house interior, at the same time that draws long visuals from the darker areas to the areas filled with natural light. At night, this element acts as a big central lamp, which serves as an artificial inner courtyard. As for the materials, all the choices match the will to liberate the space. Continuous wooden flooring, only interrupted by this central element –the bathroom–, and the rest is white and neutral colour.”
