Pauleta Pàmies’ School
I'm welcomed by Birgit, a friendly and youthful lady from Germany, but citizen of the Raval and of the world. As I am entering the big living room I feel an unstoppable desire of performing a demi plié, but luckily for my decency -and for some furniture around me-, it stayed as a simple repressed impulse. Before I can make a joke about it, Birgit goes ahead and tells me that over a century ago, this room was a dance school that held students such as Margarita Xirgú, Lorca's favorite actress; or Anita Delgado, who, at the famous Café de Levante, explained the writer Valle-Inclán how she gained the heart of an Indian Maharaja and became Princess of Kapurthala; or Pepita, Birgit's 90-something year old neighbour, a living testimony of the era. I'm not sure if all past times are better, but at least, these seem pretty nice to me.
